Four Foundations of Creative Process

How to Synchronize Body and Mind

How to work with mind
and the sense perceptions in any activity:

1.

Willing to be open

Drop defenses and strategies
Show up as "I am willing to be here."

Aspects:

  • letting the world be as it is
  • willing to be vulnerable
  • genuinness
  • willing to be seen
  • not crank things up all the time
  • letting 'nothing' happen
  • accepting "boredom moments"

Obstacles:

Our preconceptions: figuring it out ahead of time, fitting it into our systems

Our arrogance: "I already know this."
"There isn't anything to learn here."

2.

Trusting our experience

Stay with what is happening.
Enter in. Now.

Aspects:

  • realizing our experiences are choiceless
  • accepting this is what we have
  • Relating with our neurosis and our insight

Obstacles:

Laziness: "It isn't what I want, so I can't be bother to relate with it."
Anxiety: Afraid to accept the challenge of who we are.
Competitiveness: Worried about what we want to achieve, so obsessed with being 'good', we can't relate with our experiences.
Spacing out /Playing dumb: "It's too difficult, I won't relate"
Personal grandiosity: We have already achieved so much, we don't need to relate to this
Preconceptions: How something is and why we don't fit in, why it won't work for us

Mind and body are separate; not synchronized.
Mind is somewhere else.

Create awareness that this is what is happening and then just do it.
Courage is required.

Then our experience becomes just what it is; choiceless.
This creates energy and well-being.
It's direct connection to who we are.

3.

Willing to take a chance

Will be present and curious even if doesn't fit your version of how it should be. Jump in. Go for it. Sudden, unexpected connection; action. Leap.

Obstacles:

Sense of poverty: "I can't. I'm not enough." Poverty feeling so powerful it prevents you from taking a leap.

Taking sides with your ambition: attached to the outcome, hoping it will turn out 'right', fear the resentment when it turns out confused, hungering for achievement, constantly keeping track of how you are doing (this is subtle and tricky).

Take a chance. Leap beyond hope and fear. Need cheerfulness, gentleness and a sense of humor.

Dare to go ahead, even when you know you don't know.

4.

Not making anything out of it

Not getting attached to accomplishing 1, 2, and 3.

Let go of the past, completely.

Open to the next moment.

Otherwise are stuck with credentials, "It happened! It was like this. This is the way" etc.

Pat yourself on the back and... miss the next moment.

Have to let go and begin again.

This is the way to synchronize body and mind.
